Parish Council

Herriard has 5 Parish Councillors who serve for a period of four years before being re-elected or replaced. The Parish Council welcomes involvement from residents many of whom provide invaluable support in a variety of roles.

Parish Council meetings take place about 4 times a year – dates and agendas are published in advance in the Parish magazine and on the village Facebook page.

Meetings are open to all residents, who may be invited to speak at the discretion of the Parish Chair. The Annual Parish Meeting is held between 1 March and 1 June.

The Clerk to the Council (not fixed term) is also the treasurer of funds, and acts as the Proper Officer of the Council.  The Clerk is responsible for retaining  documents including minutes, which are available for the last 12 months on this website.

The Parish Council is involved in a wide range of issues, broadly these are:

• Highways
• Rural policing
• Planning applications
• Property and housing
• Herriard Green management and liaison with Sports Club and Herriard Village Charity
• Leisure activities
• Village Emergency plan
• Rural economy
• Rural amenities management
• Climate change initiatives – Greening Herriard
• Community liaison
• Herriard Estate issues that interact with the parish eg fly tipping, flooding and drainage, footpaths

In 2010, Herriard was proud to open the Parish Council and Herriard Estates supported Herriard Village Green development with its sports facilities, pedestrian pathways, children’s play area and Nursery School. The Parish Council is responsible for the ongoing management of this facility.

The Parish Council is keenly aware of the country-wide housing shortage and has worked with Herriard Estates to provide:
